Achieve 3000 Reading Program This year we are using Achieve 3000 as our reading program. We read Articles and complete activities in class online. Your child needs to continue working on this nightly at home. A letter was sent home for parents to open a Parent Portal through Achieve 3000 to see your child's progress in the program (this is not the same as focus). Please monitor your child's progress for success.
25 Books in a Year Project This class project occurs throughout the entire school year and may be worked on in class or as homework. It is designed to build stamina and endurance while reading. Stamina is a reading skill required for success while taking standardized tests or reading required nightly textbooks for other subject areas. Building stamina will lead to increased reading ability.
What constitutes a book for the project? Each student will read 900 pages per semester. Each 150 pages constitute a book. In order to count towards the 25 Books Project.
During the first nine weeks students must write a summary for each of their books. They may include their summer reading in the summaries. This book also counts as a 300 page book which equals 2 books and 1 written summary.
During the second, third and fourth nine weeks students will take the Accelerated Reader quiz and pass with a 70 or higher for their book selections. If a student makes below a 70% on the Accelerated Reader quiz he or she will be required to fill out a book summary for their book using proper writing conventions.
